"GOTDAMN YEZZY ALWAYS HIT EM WITH A NEW STYLE"

Great artist have defining moments.

Biggie had the “Where’s Brooklyn At?” speech at the Source Awards, Madonna had the “Like A Virgin” performance, MJ premiering the Moonwalk, Eminem performing with Elton John, Jay-Z putting Prodigy on that Summer Jam screen, etc….

Kanye now has two of these moments (the first was the Grammy Performance w/Daft Punk.), sure they’re not as big or iconic as the Moonwalk but at the same time it’s a moment in time where it feels like the whole world is watching, waiting for you to achieve greatness, but you do not disappoint.

So how did we get here?

Ye’s asshole-ness. It was bound to catch up with him one day. Last year around this time he took an award from America’s darling saying she didn’t deserve the award. Which was wrong and disrespectful however you look at it, but like I said it was bound to happen. After that came the memes, threats, and even our own president calling him a jackass.

Kanye went away with a big booty heaux Amber Rose and stayed quiet. Boos became wheres Kanye? We need Kanye. The game ain’t the same without Ye. As much as we hated the guy we still loved him. He was a part of us. He started off as the underdog but became the big headed prom king. The incident made him the outcast.

The outcast soon came out of hiding and started releasing music, the first couple of songs were ehhh..but Ye stans (like myself) ate up. Weeks later the music got better & better until even the haters started jumping on his side.

Then we have today.

Everyone was waiting for Kanye, whats he gonna do?, what song is he gonna perform?, whats the stage gonna look like? This nigga better not disappoint.

This guy goes back into his underdog past. He has his MPC out there. There’s silence he starts with the pre-made beat set-up. After he gets it going he starts singing (re-visiting his Prom King days) and comes out with “here’s a toast for the asshole,” being ever so true to himself. We know he’s an asshole, he knows he’s an asshole, why not just announce it? Then shares his moment with a rapper that mainstream hip-hop fans might not be able to recognize. All while this is going there’s ballet dancers floating around. At the end the crowd is cheering his name as if he were the hometown hero. The underdog became prom king became outcast is now the hero. Ye found away to fuse his past with his present.

The performance proved 2 things to me, when your down theres no where to go but up and no matter where you go don’t forget your past.

But what do I know I’m just a Kanye stan. [As are a lot of you, I just admit it often.]
